Hacking

Hacking is an attempt to exploit a user’s computer system or a private network inside an organisation. Simply put, it is the unauthorised access to or control over computer network security systems for some illicit purpose. To seek to protect against this, please refer to the list below.

1. Using a firewall, manage access to ports, protocols and applications by filtering and inspecting all traffic at the network perimeter.
2. Utilise up-to-date anti-virus and anti-malware at the perimeter to examine inbound and outbound data.
3. Use secure wireless access.
4. Utilise network segregation such as isolating critical business systems.
5. Enable secure administration through authentication and authorisation.
6. Apply the principle of least privilege to user accounts.
7. Conduct regular penetration and vulnerability testing.
8. Configure the exception handling process so no sensitive information is useful for attackers.
9. Install the latest security updates for all software, including the operating system.
10. Ensure all devices on the network are patched with the latest releases.
